  • UCAT scores are NOT considered for entry into the University of Sydney’s double degree medical program.

 

Interview Criteria and Structure:

There are two components to the interview:

  • Written component
    • Candidates will answer questions regarding ethical scenarios, their personal experiences and various medical/professional topics.
    • Responses are expected to be in full sentences and appropriately formal.
  • Panel interview
    • Applicants will be grouped with around 5 other candidates and the University of Sydney interviewer will ask questions to prompt group discussions.

  • be well-rounded (socially and academically) to succeed in their medical careers
  • be able to critically understand and evaluate research
  • have the skills to educate and influence others as health advocates
  • have an understanding of international health issues and systems
  • be adaptable and resilient.

 

Other options to entry:

  • You can also gain postgraduate entry into the University of Sydney’s Doctor of Medicine. Here’s the admission criteria:
    • Complete an eligible bachelor’s degree with a credit average or higher GPA, i.e., 5 on a 7 point scale (4.5 for rural applicants)
    • Satisfactory performance in the GAMSAT (at least 50 in each section) or MCAT

    • For 2022 entry, applicants must demonstrate that they will have completed a Biology unit or a bachelor’s degree program that has embedded biology units by 1 January 2022

Clinical placement information

Years 1 to 3

In the first three years of this double degree, students will work towards achieving their Bachelor in Science or Arts.

Year 4

Students will learn about the human body systems and establish theoretical fundamentals for the rest of their medical degree.

Year 5

Students will develop their skills in clinical science and research in block units, and develop their research project.

Year 6

Students will undertake 4 specialty rotations in psychiatry and addiction medicine, child and adolescent health, perinatal and women’s health and critical care. They will also complete a 14-week research project.

Year 7

In this pre-internship year, students will go on a series of rotations in medicine, surgery and general practice. They will also have the opportunity to visit another health care setting in their elective period.
